HANARO

The first Korean university team to verify a complete flight sequence.

HANARO has built and flown its own rockets at Seoul National University since 1995. We show every phase of every flight, including the parts that went wrong.

Who backs us

Four companies already said yes.

Hanwha Aerospace, Innospace, PDK and SPACE solution support the team in more ways than funding alone. We would not fly without them, and every result on this page belongs partly to them.

Flight record

Two vehicles. Nothing left out.

The two sequences below are not the same claim. HARANG 2 closed all six phases inside one flight. IDENTITY² closed all nine across a test campaign, which is a lower bar, so it is labelled as one.

IREC declares a target altitude and scores you against it. HARANG 2 flew to 9,137 ft against a 10,000 ft target and closed every phase from ignition to recovery. No Korean university team had done that before.

IDENTITY 3: Block 2

In build

Fin control  ·  In design

Block 2 adds active fin control. The vehicle corrects its own attitude in flight instead of relying on fixed fins and the angle of the rail, which is the difference between a vehicle that is aimed and one that steers. It is in design now.

Most university teams last about as long as the students who started them. HANARO has run since 1995 and is on its next vehicle now.

The team

All of it built by undergraduates.

110 members at Seoul National University. The team is based in Aerospace Engineering and draws members from departments across the university. It designs its own airframes, mixes its own propellant, and flies what it builds. Nothing on this page was made by a contractor.
